Pianists who won the 1971 APCA award (São Paulo Association of Art Critics): Pietro Maranca (Soloist category), Roberto Szidon (Recitalist category), Quarteto da Guanabara (Arnaldo Estrella, piano; Mariuccia Iacovino, violin; Frederick Stephany, viola; and Iberê Gomes Grosso, cello) (Chamber Ensemble category), Denis Akel (Revelation category), José Eduardo Martins (among others, Special Award category), Gilberto Tinetti and Nelson Freire (among others, Out of Competition Awards category). Inauguration of the Palácio das Artes in Belo Horizonte (MG).

The LP "Brazilian Classical Music" (Chantecler CMG-1050) is released, featuring Fritz Jank performing works by Claudio Santoro (the world's first recording of the complete cycle of the 7 Paulistanas), Fructuoso Vianna (7 Miniatures), Ernani Braga (Xangô), and Paulo Florence (Nocturne).

The show was directed by Manoel Carlos, and also featured Chico Buarque, the vocal group MPB4, and the drum section of the Unidos de Padre Miguel Samba School, under the direction of its rehearsal director, Mestre André.
