The Palais Cinema was inaugurated at Av. Rio Branco, 145-149 (opposite the Odeon Cinema), Rio de Janeiro. It was in the waiting room of the Palais Cinema that the group Os Oito Batutas, led by Pixinguinha on the flute (who had been a musician in the cinema's orchestra since 1915), performed for the first time on April 7, 1919, at the invitation of manager Isaak Frankel, playing maxixes, lundus, sertanejo songs, corta-jacas, batuques, and cateretês. The group's first lineup included Pixinguinha on flute; China on vocals, guitar, and piano; Donga on guitar; Raul Palmieri on guitar; Nelson Alves on cavaquinho; José Alves on mandolin and ganzá; Jacó Palmieri on pandeiro; and Luís de Oliveira on mandolin and reco-reco. The South American Jazz Band, led by Romeu Silva, also played at the Palais; and the Turunas Pernambucanos performed there, advertised as "music from the North," "Brazilian country folk," "songs from the backlands," "emboladas and challenges," debuting on April 20, 1922. Pixinguinha stated in a testimony that the "great classical pianist Luciano Gallet" performed there. Rui Barbosa, Ernesto Nazareth, and Arnaldo Guinle were among the audience members who frequented the hall to hear the cinema musicians.

Carlos de Carvalho (vocals) performed several pieces, probably accompanied by Nininha Velloso Guerra on piano, by Bach, Schumann, Liszt, Strauss, Fauré, Chausson, Ravel, Debussy, Francisco Braga (Dead Virgins), Barrozo Netto (Sad Eyes), and Alberto Nepomuceno (Undecided Heart). June 25. Guiomar Novaes makes her Rio de Janeiro debut in a recital with works by Bach-Busoni, Chopin, Brahms, Moszkowski, and Liszt (although her first performance in Rio de Janeiro was in 1908, specialized critics consider this her Rio de Janeiro debut). TMRJ. July 25th.

August 29. August 29th. Manoel Augusto dos Santos performs one of Liszt's concertos with an orchestra conducted by Francisco Braga, TMRJ.

October 26. October 26th. Soirée with the participation of Nair de Teffé (then First Lady of the Republic, wife of Hermes da Fonseca, playing piano, mandolin, solo guitar, and singing and playing guitar), Ernani de Figueiredo (guitar), Leopoldo Duque Estrada (piano), Mme. Nisia Silva (singing), and Arthur Napoleão (piano). Leopoldo Duque Estrada performed Gottschalk's Grand Triumphal Fantasy on the Brazilian National Anthem. Arthur Napoleão performed Étincelles, of his own composition. Nair de Teffé performed one of Franz Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsodies. It was at this soirée that Nair de Teffé also performed, on solo guitar, Chiquinha Gonzaga's Gaúcho (Corta-jaca), causing a great scandal at the time. Catete Palace, Rio de Janeiro.

October 30. October 30th. Festival-concert organized by Arthur Napoleão for the presentation of the child prodigy pianist Walter Burle Marx (at age 12), who performed works by Schumann (4 pieces), Zanella, and Henrique Oswald (Tarantella). Pianist Antonietta Rudge performed works by Schumann (Papillons), Mahler, Ravel (Alborada del gracioso), and Wagner-Liszt; Arthur Napoleão performed three of his own compositions (Pensée poétique, Les etincelles, Formosa). Rudge and Napoleão performed, on two pianos, Napoleão's Tarantella and nine Cramer Etudes with second piano composed by Napoleão. Singer Nícia Silva also participated in the recital, performing works by Napoleão (Adieu je pars!..., and Johann Strauss), probably accompanied by Napoleão on the piano.

December 12. Grand concert-festival organized by pianists Antonietta Rudge and Arthur Napoleão. Rudge performed works by Bach-Busoni, Chopin, Saint-Saëns-Liszt, Ravel, and Alkan. Napoleão performed Liszt, Pauer, and a work of his own. The two presented Liszt's Hungarian Fantasy for two pianos. Singer Candida Kendall and declaimer Goulart de Andrade also participated in the recital. TMRJ.
