September 12th. The Imperial Institute for Blind Boys is created, which in 1890 became known as the Benjamin Constant Institute, Rio de Janeiro. Some of its piano teachers were Guilherme Lourenço Schulze, Adele Maria Luiz a Sigaud, José Soares Pinto de Serqueira, João Pinheiro de Carvalho, some of whom were blind. José Braziel Madeira acted as tuner. August 29th. Geraldo Horta performs a study for the left hand, of his own composition, on the aria Casta diva, from Bellini's opera Norma.

The same program included a performance of Rossini's William Tell Symphony, in a transcription for two pianos and eight hands, by an unidentified author (pianists also unidentified, but probably including Geraldo Horta and Isidoro Bevilacqua). Rio de Janeiro.
