The Musical and Copying Lyceum was founded by Henrique Alves de Mesquita and Antônio Luís de Moura. This establishment offered music courses, copied sheet music, provided orchestras for dances, and sold instruments. It was also where Henrique Alves de Mesquita tuned pianos, taught music, and sold instruments. His first compositions date from this period, such as the piano waltz "Saudades de Mme.
